Paper on Teaching Evolution and Big Ideas

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:23 pm by Carlyn

As the coordinating theory for the study of life on Earth “… evolutionary theory rests on a network of foundational disciplines, ranging from genetics to ecology and geology, so that understanding evolution requires coordinating multiple disciplines and perspectives. Rather than understanding isolated concepts, learning about evolution requires synthesis and coordination among a network of related ideas. The synthetic character of these relations present significant challenges for learning, teaching, and assessment, because it is unlikely that grasp of any single conceptual distinction, like that between mutation and selection, will be sufficient to leverage understanding of evolution…”

This paper discusses the process of effectively teaching evolution through the concepts of Big Ideas taken from the AAAS learning strands as they apply to various age demographics.

Here you can post any type of posting, or personal stuff, to the rest of the class – yup, all groups can access this page. Do you want to share something with the other groups? Want to share a photo of your kid? Exchange recipes? Baseball stats? Here’s the place to do that. You know the rules – keep it clean, be nice, and if you have a good recipe for venison jerky, I want to know…

When writing posts…

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:43 pm by Administrator

Just a reminder, not to put anything personal into any of your posts; e.g., phone numbers, addresses, etc. Believe it or not, we’ve already been pinged, so there are folks looking in. Also, when writing a post, on the right side under “Discussions”, make sure “Allow Comments” is checked, and “Allow Pings” is NOT checked.

Posting Pictures

To Post a Picture:

Start (or Edit) a Post.  See the “Upload” box below the “Post” box?

Hit “Browse” and select the picture from your computer.

Hi “Upload”

When you see the picture in the field, Left Click on the picture, and select “Copy Image Location”

Then go back to the Post area.  Up at the top bar of the Post section, is a picture of a tree (Insert/edit Image icon).

Click on that, and hit paste (ctrl “v” for pc users).

Write a quick description, click a location if you’d like,  and hit “Insert”. Size does matter, and if your px is too big, you can click on it and find, in the corner of the px, a “box” which you can click and drag to make the px the size you want.

Let me know if anyone has any problems -
